Moving Checklist!
Tips and tricks to your house move a breeze!
In this Gold Buyers blog, you can expect to read a moving checklist that follows everything from A-Z. We have thought of everything to make your move a breeze.
Hands up if you’ve been tempted by a sea change, city change or state change?! You are not alone; we have had numerous conversations with friends and family lately, all desperate to make a change, a leap of faith if you will, into the unknown. After being stuck stagnant in your home state for two years even the thought of hitting the open road sounds alluring!
With that in mind, we have put together a checklist to make moving a breeze!
As always, as we head into the new year, we as individuals start to weigh up where our priorities lie and what is important to us and what will improve our quality of everyday life. Nowadays we don’t only work to survive, but we work to enjoy our life… maybe a city change is just what your soul needs!
Moving decisions to make:
Firstly, you’ll need to work out if this move is going to be a “long term, pack everything up and go” move, or “let’s give it a go and see what it’s like to move?!” Or perhaps, you need a change of scenery, and it’s a neighbourhood change you are after.
Once you have defined what you want to do with your move, it’s imperative to look at the big picture; where will this next phase of your life be taking you? What is it that you are craving? What would make you happy?
Is it bushland or a cosy neighbourhood, or perhaps the sound of the waves crashing at the end of the street? Once you have worked out that aspect of your journey, it’s time to start checking off your moving list.
A checklist to get you moving:
We recommended that you start ticking off your moving checklist 4-6 weeks before you make your move, especially in Omicron climate where everyone is short-staffed and the tasks that usually take a day can take up to three!
> Are you going to hire removest or do it yourself?
Do you have the ability to make your move happen on your own, or are you going to need to hire a company to get your move moving?
The most cost-effective way is to simply sell all your furniture and buy replacements where ever you land, hire your own truck/trailer or, better yet, borrow someones! Some businesses will let you drop off the truck at your destination end. Did someone say 2022 road trip?!
If you decide to keep your current furniture, make sure you measure your existing furniture to make sure that it will fit into your new home, or you will have a “pivot, pivot, pivot!” situation.
The question was asked on Muval, how much does it cost to move interstate from Melbourne to Sydney?
This is what they had to say:
Interstate removalists servicing from Melbourne to Sydney cost $116.84 per cubic meter on average. The average job price is $694.02 and the average space per job is 5.94 cubic meters. The total distance that needs to be travelled is 878.36km.
Muval is also a great resource to find an interstate removalist near you.
Do you need to declutter?
Decluttering is probably the most effective way to minimise to cost of your move, and you know how much we at Gold buyers love to declutter; out with the old!
Following the holly grail method of decluttering, you can’t go wrong:
– Keep: Do you use it, do you wear it, have you used it within the last 3 months?
– Sell: Furniture, electronics, clothes, tools, kitchen items, pet items, outdoor settings, kids toys?!
– Donate: Donate gently used items: toys, clothing, bedding, kitchenware, sports equipment.
If you have old towels (washed) and linen, these can be donated to animal shelters.
– Throw it out: Stained and ripped clothes, shoes that have been through their lifetime, chipped and broken dishes, furniture in poor conditions, toys that are broken, colour books that have been used, magazines and medicine, makeup and creams that have passed their use-by date!
Go through each room of your house, one or two days at a time, think about it, don’t rush it.
You will be surprised how much stuff you actually don’t need. Also, how many of your things don’t actually serve a purpose in your life, which could give someone else an immeasurable amount of joy.
Don’t forget, if you come across any old Gold Jewellery that you don’t wear, send it to Gold Buyers using our Mail-In service so that we can send you some cash in return!
Now onto the mundane tasks:
> Transfer utilities
>Connect TV and Internet
>Update your address
>Gather important documents
>Take photos of valuable items
>Research local business
> It’s time to empty the fridge / Cupboards
> Hire a cleaning company to give your old place and new place a once over
>Schedule home improvements, yep. Now that you are going, it’s time to fix that leaky tap. If you are leaving a rental, you’ll want to ensure your bond comes back to you!
If you are moving interstate, read the latest covid rules in your new state when travelling in the time of covid-19.
We’d love to hear where the year for 2022 takes you, and we hope that it is somewhere inspiring and exciting.
